OH THE JOYS........

Well this week has been filled with several of those stressful "mommy moments".  To start off, the boys and I went to my mom's house down here in Georgia for a few days of R & R.  We got there on Sunday afternoon and had a really wonderful couple of days.  Then Tuesday night I woke up to a "gagging/puking" sound and quickly jumped up to find Brayden, the wall, the bed and the floor full of RED puke.  Talk about freaked out....I flew out of bed and in the semi-dark room it looked like blood everywhere.  I immediately went into panic mode and carried him into the bathroom to get a closer look.  That's when I realized it was the red jello he had eaten that night, along with chunks of undigested pineapple!!  The poor thing had it in his nose, eyes, ears, hair, etc....I think you get the picture:-)  I assumed it was food poisoning from the Chinese buffet that we had eaten at since it came on so suddenly.  My mom ate the same pudding that he ate and she was feeling a little icky but nothing serious.   He hasn't really eaten anything all week and it's been an effort to get fluids down him.  There was just the one night of vomiting (thank GOD) but he just hasn't really felt himself.  I started getting some nausea on Wednesday and it has continued and I even had a whole day of diarrhea.   Then yesterday Cameron was acting really fussy and not eating his entire bottles at each feeding.  Then he started screaming and wrenching in pain.  This went on for a couple of hours and he was obviously in lots of pain as he was literally pinching my skin on my face & pulling my hair.  Scott and I started to get concerned.....no, it was more than "concerned"...we were both scared to death.  He has NEVER screamed that loud or for that long of a period of time.  We finally decided to take him in to Children's Hospital in Atlanta.  Well of course on the way there he slept the whole time and when we got there, the screaming had subsided.  The first thought on the doctor's mind was something called "Intussusception" which is apparently life threatening.  So of course when he started talking about this...I went into a panic and had a full blown panic attack.....not a good thing when you don't have a Xanax handy!  Here's a link with information on this condition and after reading it I'm sooooo thankful that this was NOT the problem.

They immediately did a stomach x-ray on him to rule this out.  They would have gone onto further testing had something looked abnormal on the x-ray.  The doctor actually said the films looked "beautiful".  You can imagine my sigh of relief when he told me this.  I had told him about Brayden's "episode" and he told me that he was going to "assume" this was something that Brayden passed on to Cameron.  He did say that half of the ER that night was full of kids with stomach bugs of some sort.   They gave him some Zofran to help him with keep food down and then had me feed him some Pedialyte while we were there to see if he could keep it down.  SUCCESS!

So, at 3:00 AM we were finally back home and heading to bed.  They told us to give Cameron nothing but Pedialyte until he could handle his formula again.  So, that is what we've done tonight.  We finally started giving him a little bit of formula mixed with the Pedialyte and now he's back on just formula, although smaller amount & more frequently.

These times are the "not so joyous" moments of motherhood.  Knowing your baby is sick & in pain and you cannot do anything to make them feel better is one of the most helpless feeling in the world.  I thank God that I haven't had too many moments like this.  Brayden has been a very healthy kid despite the fact that he doesn't eat well and he's underweight.  So far Cameron has been healthy too and I pray that this continues.

On another note, as you know Scott has been out of work for almost a month now.  This week he has finally gotten some "bites" on his resume and has actually had a couple of interviews this week and has a couple more lined up.  Please continue to pray for us as he needs to get something SOON!

Now for a few recent pictures.......

Look at his hair....I put oil in it to loosen some of the cradle cap and I thought it would be funny to twist the top of it like that since it was so long:-)
